The Ribbon Ceremony also included an award observance by the Student Council to honor Professor Randy Slade. The MSC Standout Award was presented to Professor Slade by Student Council Vice President Melissa Valle, and Treasurer Rachel Luviano. The MSC Stand out Award is presented to an individual who has gone above and beyond their respective duty and demonstrates a hard work ethic. “We picked Slade because he goes above and beyond for his students. Every student has nothing but positive comments about him. He has always attended our townhall meetings and is a big supporter of student council,” said Student Council Vice President, Melissa Valle.

The college moved to the new facility in January 2016. The new space features an atmosphere that promotes group learning and collaboration. The high-tech classrooms are designed to enhance the revamped curriculum. Mt Sierra College offers approximately 25,000 square feet of space dedicated to student learning. The new campus provides laboratory and traditional classroom instruction in spacious and efficient classrooms. The new campus includes a student lounge; an intimate twenty-one seat theatre; break out spaces and conference rooms; a learning resource center with the latest in online resources, books, videos, periodicals; rental equipment center with professional video and photography equipment. Classrooms and labs are networked using the latest in wired and wireless technology. Mt Sierra College has developed a campus that simulates the environment in which students will be working as they enter the professional world. The College laid the foundation for its Bachelor of Science degree programs in 1994. After receiving accreditation in April of 1996, Mt Sierra College offered its first courses leading to degrees in Network Communications, Multimedia Design Technology, and Computer Information Technology. In the Fall of 2002, Mt Sierra College launched its first business degree program, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. Since then, the College has introduced new programs in the Media Arts and Design department, including the innovative Game Arts and Design program as well as Visual Design, Visual Effects and Digital Video. Since 2015, the 100% shareholder of Mt Sierra College, Inc. is Wellsland, LLC; a single member Limited Liability Company. The change in ownership in 2015 allowed for the current changes and revamping of the college. Today, Mt Sierra College continues its pattern of innovative curriculum development attached to their education philosophy- to offer students an education that prepares them for entry into a wide variety of careers in media arts and design, business and technology.

In his speech, owner and interim president, Jie (George) Zhao stated, “My dream has come true. We are happy to welcome you to our new facility. I hope this to be a playground where our students can enjoy learning and growing.” The new and improved campus is a testament to the commitment of Wellsland, LLC to the growth of Mt Sierra College.

The revamped curriculum displays dedication to the evolution and improvement of the college. The changes to the curriculum include shifting the courses to benefit each program. New curriculum includes updated software courses like ZBrush, Quixel Suite 2, Camtasia and Quick Time Player for the Game Arts Program. This is in addition to 8 other professional game art programs implemented in the core curriculum. The media program has added a new web design and development path to its Visual Design program with intensive focus on visual design and theory. Mt Sierra endeavors to expand it’s focus with future plans in Mobile Gaming, 3D printing, and Virtual Reality development.
