GRAPHIC /VISUAL DESIGN ADJUNCT FACULTY

DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Dean, faculty delivers class and/or clinical instruction according to an approved course syllabus using accepted and effective teaching methods; develops daily lesson plans; advises and tutors students; maintains current and accurate attendance and grade records; remains current in applicable program teaching field; participates in faculty meetings, instructional seminars and in-service training sessions. Participates in school activities such as faculty meetings, student functions, graduation exercises, open houses, new student orientations, and advisory board meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction

  • Delivers curriculum in accordance with approved syllabi, according to program objectives and required contact hours for courses taught.
  • Employs appropriate instructional methods and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students and modifies where appropriate to meet diverse students’ needs.
  • Observes and evaluates students’ work to determine progress, provides feedback, and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Presents lectures and conducts discussions to increase students’ knowledge and competence, using visual aids.
  • Supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or other training as necessary.
  • Provides individualized tutorial and/or remedial instruction.
  • Conducts simulated on-the-job training, classes, or training sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, and/or methods of designated subjects.
  • Participates in curriculum development, implementation and assessment process
  • Participates in program reviews
  • Participates in Program Advisory Committees
  • Delivers courses according to standardized syllabi.
  • Assists with mentoring new instructors.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors and records daily class attendance and grades according to established procedures and deadlines.
  • Posts and maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students for advisement and consultation.
  • Participates in graduation ceremonies.
  • Refers students to other College personnel/Departments as needed.
  • Works with the college administration, staff and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student satisfaction rates.
  • Participates in the implementation of the Institutional Effectiveness Plan and campus retention efforts.
  • Maintains the privacy and confidentiality of student information/records.
  • Substitutes for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
  • Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials.
  • May serve on committees as assigned.
  • Attends faculty meetings, in-services and events required by the college.
  • Participates in the retention of students, faculty and staff.
  • Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field; and integrate relevant information. Attends at least four (3) professional development activities annually to remain current in field of instruction (information as well as technology).
  • Maintains professional appearance for position and serves as a role model, leader and mentor to the campus community.
  • Adheres to Company policies and procedures and acts as a role model to all staff and students through guidance and example.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company’s Ethics Code of Business Conduct, Corporate Compliance Agreement, its policies and procedures, applicable federal and states laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Maintains established department policies, procedures and attends in-services and other required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all customer, student, associate, and/or company information as required.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate and practical knowledge of their field or discipline.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
  • Ability to effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines such as computer terminal, calculator and copier.
  • Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.
  • Ability to use effective communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations and effective listening skills.
  • Ability to speak before public groups, committees and meetings.
  • Ability to effectively use interpersonal skills, follow through with duties, provide attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to motivate others.

  • Preparation of interactive, innovative, and multi-modal approaches of teaching
  • Response to student inquiries in a timely manner;
  • Provision of substantive and ongoing feedback to students;
  • Maintenance and enhancement of the quality of teaching in the program;
  • Attendance at adjunct faculty meetings, professional development, and trainings

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in English

The ability to demonstrate clear evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned a doctorate degree
  • Experienced in teaching writing and rhetorical concept for academic purpose
  • Experienced in teaching creative thinking, critical thinking, and independent thinking for academic and problem solving;
  • Experienced in teaching a student-centered approach to the teaching and learning processes
  • Experienced in the development of praxis in teaching, learning technologies, and education;
  • Experienced in the use of instructional technology enhanced courses and Learning Management Systems;
  • Experienced in modeling cultural proficiency and commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice;
  • Proven record of contributing to a supportive team environment

In addition to the above qualifications, the preferred candidate also has knowledge of or previous formal study of a second language and experience living or studying overseas
